Students enjoy Zayed-Gandhi Digital Museum in Abu Dhabi
March 27, 2019
Students from across the UAE continue to flock to the Zayed-Gandhi Digital Museum, held at Manarat Al Saadiyat, in collaboration with the Mahatma Gandhi Digital Museums in New Delhi. The unique museum celebrates the humanitarian values and legacies of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founding Leader of the UAE, and coincides with the 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the man who led India to independence from British rule in 1947.
School visits contribute to the promotion of national identity and to upholding the values of openness and tolerance – which are cornerstones in the legacy of both leaders, Zayed and Gandhi. It also integrates the Emirati community in frameworks which advocate for loyalty to the leaders, the country and commitment to its values and cultural mission.
The students were impressed with what they saw in the museum, especially the creative design that makes it an artistic forum that celebrates cultural exchange and dialogue. It invites visitors to go on a journey entitled: compassion, homeland, wise leadership, peace, tolerance and fraternity. The students also marveled at the advanced technology that made the museum a digital one, in every sense of the word. In addition to the exceptional works of Emirati artists Khalid Al Shafar, Abdullah Al Mulla and Ashwaq Abdullah, which embody the concept of the creative museum and are inspired by humanitarian traits, shared by Sheikh Zayed and Mahatma Gandhi.
The Museum, which is open until March 29, 2019, celebrates two world leaders whose noble human values were witnessed by the entire world, and who contributed to the spirit of tolerance, solidarity and harmony among their people. It also sheds light on their unique visions for development, humanity and the environment, and serves as a window for multicultural audiences in the UAE to experience the thoughts of two men, who shared the same values and principles, even though they came from completely different cultural backgrounds.
The museum is open to the public daily from 9 am to 8 pm, except Fridays from 9 am to 9 pm. The museum also utilizes multimedia technologies creatively through interactive imagery and video content, representing the lives of the two leaders and their achievements. The museum will host a series of cultural events and workshops, which reflect the deep cultural connections between the two countries. Also, on Fridays, a documentary about Sheikh Zayed and Mahatma Gandhi will be screened.
