The Arabic Language Advisory Council Discuss A Proposal Entitled “The Arabic Language: An Inexhaustible Source Of Goodness”

HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, stressed on the importance of making the Year of Goodness 2017 the year marking the launch of a plan to develop the Arabic language education and implementing it in private schools. This way the Arabic language Advisory Council will continue to achieve its objectives with new modern methods supporting and promoting the Arabic language. At this stage, teaching and learning of the Arabic language will be the focus of attention, creating carefully designed projects which contributes to redressing education. Such projects will be implemented by cultural and educational institutions and adopted by policy makers in all parts of the Arab world. His Excellency said that elevating and promoting the Arabic language is not the responsibility of the Advisory Council or a sole institution. It requires combined efforts, coordination and cooperation of all government and private institutions as well as all members of the community, creating methods in line with todays information, technology and communication. This came during the meeting of the Arabic language Advisory Council, headed by His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development yesterday morning at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development in Abu Dhabi. The Council aims to confirm the status of the Arabic language, propose measures to ensure the protection of this language, reveal causes and factors that led to the weakness of the Arabic language in private schools and support efforts to implement the Arab language Charter stemming from the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to work on the promotion of the Arabic language which acts as a tool expressing our values , culture and historical distinctiveness in line with the 2021 vision. At the beginning of the meeting HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan welcomed the members of the Council, thanking their continued efforts over the past period to elevate Arabic language teaching in private schools. Adding that the increase of UAE national students in private schools is an issue worth studying and highlighting. Sheikh Nahyan focused on the importance of proposing a set of recommendations by members of the Arabic Language Advisory in the coming period to find creative solutions to strengthen the role of the Arabic language in private schools by upgrading the capacities of teachers, the revision of curriculums and methods of true teaching. The meeting then discussed a range of questions about the methods currently used in schools, and the proposed methods and concepts to face Arabic language issues in private schools . On a related note, HE Abd El Ghaffar Hussein, a member of the Council, compared the language learning policies in public and private schools and the concern of private schools in teaching the English language due to its importance nowadays, adding that Arabic should be given the same attention. HE Ibrahim Al Abed, member of the Committee, stressed the importance of reconsidering the education curriculum, especially the nature of the educational content, which should be appropriate to today’s needs . HE Afra Al Sabri, also stressed the importance of proposing recommendations to the concerned authorities in the country about the rules of selecting Arabic language teachers and develop their skills. In addition to developing an appropriate curriculum empowering the Arabic language as a tool for students. HE Ahmed Shabib Al Dhaheri, member of the Council, stressed the need to empower the Arabic language in private schools, through the provision of inspection on the Arabic language to evaluate all the concerned parties in the educational process starting from students, curriculum and teacher. His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, a member of the Advisory Counsil, added that it is important to find effective channels for dialogue, discussion and revision in a comprehensive manner helping the development of teaching Arabic in private schools. Dr. Obaid Ali Al Muhairi, stressed the importance of issuing laws for private educational institutions to act as a regulator of the current situation in private schools and the importance of developing rules for choosing Arabic language and Islamic education teachers in private schools. Dr. Ali Saeed Al Kaabi, member of the committee, also confirmed on the importance of activating the role of institutions responsible for strengthening the role of the Arabic language in the community in line with the importance and status of the Arabic language that reflect the culture of this nation and reflect Arabic and Islamic values, originality and roots. Along with the importance of activating the Arabic language charter and initiatives to achieve this vision. The meeting was attended by members of the Advisory Council including: HE Afra Al Sabri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, writer HE Abdul Ghaffar Hussein, a member of Culture and Science Symposium in Dubai Vice Chairman of the Board, HE Ahmed bin Shabib Al Dhaheri, Director General of the Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Foundation for Charity and Humanity, HE Ibrahim Al-Abed, Advisor of the Head of the National Media Council, HE Mohammed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Executive, Editing and Publication Director of the Al Ittihad newspaper, and Dr. Obaid Ali bin Butti Al Muhairi, and Dr. Ali Saeed Al Kaabi, Undersecretary of the College of Education, UAE University .
