Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Humaid Al Nu’aimi, chairman of the Department of Touristic Development and Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, visited the project of the heritage district development in Ajman Museum area. They inspected the development works done in this project, which is one of the most prominent projects aiming at highlighting the history of Ajman and preserving the popular legacies therein. This project will also be a specific addition to the touristic and heritage sector. It is expected to complete this project before the end of this year with a total cost of AED.25 million.
During their inspection tour, Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Humaid and H. E. the Minister listened to a detailed explanation presented by Eng. Dr. Mohammed bin Umair Al Muhairy, the executive director of the Infrastructure Development Sector of the Department of Planning and Survey about the work progress in the project of the heritage district located at the center of the heritage area in Ajman, which is one of the development projects executed by the Department, as well as the entire phases of the project, the future vision thereof, the works completed as per the plans and engineering designs of the project and the contemporary cultural image it reflects, which combines the heritage, legacies and the urban development witnessed by Ajman.
Dr. Bin Umair provided also a detailed brief on the project and its objective, noting that this project is carried out by efficient and talented staff who have adopted and worked on developing the idea from the very beginning to the designing phase, phasing process and setting the objectives.
The project consists of walkways, exterior spaces, outdoor theater, cinemas, shops and buildings that are designed in accordance with the standards of the sustainable building and preservation of heritage sites.
Upon completion, this project will be one of Ajman’s touristic, heritage and historical attractions, where it focuses on highlighting the long story of the city, and provides a clear perception of the urban fabric of a significant era of the city development. The project is a development and an extension of prominent historical and heritage elements that left a distinctive imprint to be a witness on the great past and bright events. The project will include Ajman Museum, which is one of the oldest palaces in the Arabian Gulf area, and historic Saleh bazaar. This will render the project a vibrant one that will act as a source of cultural, economic and touristic benefit.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Humaid Al Nu’aimi, chairman of the Ajman Department of Touristic Development, expressed his pleasure over the visit of H. E. Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development to Ajman Museum and the Heritage District area, where she was briefed on the last developments of the expansion projects in this area, which, once completed, will be a specific addition to touristic sector, particularly to the heritage tourism of which Ajman is marked.
He added that based on the direct directives of H. H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al No’ami, member of the Supreme Council and the Ruler of Ajman and under the direct supervision of H. H. Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nu’aimi , Ajman Crown Prince and chairman of the Executive Council; Ajman Government is keen on adopting and supporting the specific projects that promote Ajman standing to be one of the most significant touristic destinations.
He also added that Ajman has succeeded in promoting its stature to be one of the most beautiful touristic designations attracting visitors and tourists from all over the world, in light of the various touristic programs it offers, which fit the various categories of society.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Humaid indicated that the “Heritage District” area includes Ajman Museum and the historic Saleh bazaar, as well as the places, streets and passages confined between them, which the project will take care of, in order to maintain their old genuineness and, at the same time, to upgrade thereof to be vibrant ones through urban structure designed to simulate a significant epoch of the history of Ajman development and to be an extension of its present, which will preserve the legacies, antique contents, historic boats and the perennial trees at the site.
On her part, Mrs. Noura Al Kaabi stressed that the “Heritage District” area is a new addition to the components of the heritage tourism in Ajman, due to the elements, it includes, that attract the artistic and cultural events and contribute to introduce the UAE heritage to public and visitors within a modern architectural environment inspired by the past. She also noted that the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development is keen on coordination with various acting parties in the cultural landscape in the UAE.
In turn, Mr. Saleh Al Jizairi, director general of Ajman Department of Touristic Development, who accompanied Sheikh Abdul Aziz and H. E. the Minister during their inspection tour, said “The Minister’s visit to Ajman Museum and the Heritage District area reflects her interest in becoming aware of the infrastructure necessary for rendering the Heritage District area an attracting touristic destination in the short term in accordance with the vision and strategy of Ajman Government. We are proud of her communication with us to provide support for all artistic and cultural activities and events across the UAE and to disseminate arts on the level of the region in its entirety”.
