Ministry Of Culture Raises The Participation Age In The Cultural Summer Program To 22 Years After Popular Demand
July 12, 2017
Cultural centers of the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development in Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah, Dibba Al Fujairah, Masafi, Ras Al Khaimah and Al Dhafra organized an open day for students participating in the cultural summer program and their parents during the first week of the kick start of the program’s main activities, with the aim of receiving their opinions, point of views and suggestions to contribute to the development of the notion of the program, through which the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development implements one of its most important objectives ; discovering and promoting talents. Information and answers to all questions about the nature of the various workshops, timings, professors and lecturers were also provided for the students and their parents. Meanwhile, parents of students participating in the program praised the great efforts exerted by the Ministry, the Higher Committee organizing the program and workshops supervisors. They expressed their happiness asserting that filling the summer vacation with workshops in the fields of theatrical arts, visual arts, creative writing in poetry, short story, novel and children’s literature and music will explore, discover and develop the hobbies and talents of their children. Parents demanded to raise the participation age to 22 years to allow university students to join the program and called on the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development to sponsor the talented students after the end of the program to develop their abilities. They further stressed their full confidence in the program and its role in the development of knowledge and culture in general for all participants. On the other hand, the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development approved raising the age of participation to 22 years instead of 17 years, stressing that registration is available for all university students to participate in the development of their creativity in any of the workshops that will continue until the 10nth of August next. This would achieve a number of the objectives of the ministry, including empowering young people to practice their hobbies in a proper environment and raising the level of cultural and knowledge awareness. It is worthy of mentioning that there has been a noticeable increase in demand for theatrical workshops by a large number of student. The artist and director Hassan Rajab, supervisor of the theater workshop at the Ajman Cultural Center, assured that the participants number in the theatre workshop has doubled on the third day to exceed 50 students of different ages. He pointed out that a large number of participants did not know anything about theater and never attended any theatrical work, while others did actually perform theatrical acts in their schools, which necessitated that the workshop should set main goals including the definition of theatre and its various elements, the importance of each element, writing for the theater and the role of the actor and director. This would lead after the completion of the first week of the workshop, to sufficient theatrical knowledge upon which practical lessons can be based in the coming weeks. “The Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development has focused on making workshops more developed and systematic to provide a simplified approach for visual arts in general and for drawing and painting in particular. This would be achieved by first raising the level of awareness of the value of fine art and enhancing the values of beauty in the hearts of students. Then comes the role of practical training which enables us to discover talents available in UAE schools and universities. “, noted Abdul Karim Sukar, supervisor of the Visual Arts Workshop at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Center, who further stressed that there is a daily increase in the number of participants in the workshop. Dr. Ahmed Sami, supervisor of the musical arts workshop at Al Dhafra Cultural Center, said that the workshop will help students learn more about music, its creativity and aesthetics. The workshop is also an opportunity for students to train on how to play music and listening and reading musical notes. Sami stressed that he has developed a general perception of the workshop since the first day, in which he will absorb and blend all the participants through theoretical information and training on various instruments, especially the piano.
