Programme of over 70 cultural and innovative workshops will focus on discovering and nurturing young talents between the ages of 5-19, free of cost

  The Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development (MCKD) officially launched the Cultural Summer Camp programme at the Ajman Cultural Centre. The programme was inaugurated by Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi Chairman of Ajman Tourism and Her Excellency Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development in an opening event yesterday with a special tour of the cultural centre and the first workshop of the season, “Jewellery Making Using Sustainable Materials” with renowned Emirati artist a nd designer Azza Al Qubaisi.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Tourism, said “It is a pleasure to be here today at the launch of the Cultural Summer Camp with MCKD at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Platforms such as the camp have a rich public programming element that contribute to nurturing young people’s skillset, allowing them to be an active contributor to their community and in turn, their nation. The Cultural Summer Camp has a brilliantly diverse range of activities and topics hosted with a selection of respected local and international institutions specialized.”

At the opening, HE Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development commented: “As parents search for summer camps that are engaging and educational for their children this summer, MCKD has worked extensively with prestigious institutions across the UAE to provide unique and engaging learning experiences for our nation’s youth. Students at the Cultural Summer Camp will not only learn technical skills, but will also be able to gain an understanding and appreciation for a myriad of topics from science, life skills, to entrepreneurship and so much more. The diverse and robust programming will provide young students with the opportunity to navigate new experiences within an interactive and supportive environment with the support of our esteemed partners.”

Additional workshops on the launch day in Ajman included “Living on Mars” with Raffi Tchakerian, Aerospace Designer and Assistant Professor at Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation; “Creative Personality Test” with Re: Urban Studio; and “The Art of Concrete” with artist Farah Nasrawi.

Running from 14 July until 6 August 2019, the Cultural Summer Camp programme has been specially curated to develop and discover young talent in the UAE. It will be held daily excluding Fridays and feature three categories, Arts and Culture, Innovation and Self Development, and will cover a range of topics across expressive visual arts, design, architecture, entrepreneurship, science and technology, media, meditation and life skills.

This programme is a significant element in the Ministry’s strategy to preserve and protect cultural heritage for future generations and build national pride and increase engagement with the Emirate’s cultural scene. The extensive programme will be held across cultural centres in Al Dhafra Region, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Dibba Al Fujairah, and Masafi.

Registration for the workshops is open on www.mcy.gov.ae. The programme is open to all UAE-based and Emirati youth between the ages of 5-19, free of cost. Interested participants are encouraged to register early as spaces are limited.
