– Al-Ridwan Kindergarten organized an Al-Ridwan Book Writer Exhibition during Reading Month to showcase the outcomes of the “Our Big Book” project, which aims to enhance children’s love for reading and writing in early childhood education and develop their cooperation and creativity skills through story writing and character design.
The project was carried out over two academic terms. Teachers coordinated with each other to select global stories, define the characters, and co-author the stories with the children. Throughout the project, the children were introduced to the elements of a story (beginning, middle, end, plot, characters, and resolution) and were taught writing strategies using a variety of story models. The preparation phase also included training children in reading, writing, speaking, drama, and art while incorporating Islamic values, traditional Emirati values (Sana’a), and national identity to strengthen the children’s connection to their culture.
The project involved collecting the texts and illustrations, assembling the final book, and training the children on how to present their stories. It also integrated recycling as a key element in designing the scenes and characters, with children wearing costumes representing the characters in their stories, which enhanced their engagement and communication skills.
On the day of the exhibition, the event began with a speech by the Al-Ridwan Ambassadors on the importance of reading, followed by a theatrical performance by the kindergarten students about “Reading Month.” The children also presented performances representing the content of the stories they had created. The exhibition included interactive activities such as drawing, coloring, and storytelling, allowing the children to engage with their peers and the audience.
The exhibition also featured a classroom tour where each class had a dedicated table to display their “Big Book.” The children explained the concept of their stories and the process behind creating them. The event was attended by students from other schools and parents, who expressed admiration for the children’s creativity and performance. Feedback and evaluations were collected from visitors to further improve future projects.
