NATIONAL READING MONTH (2024-25)
Event Start Date: 1st March to 22nd March
A Celebration of Stories, Creativity & Expression!
Reading is more than just a fundamental skill-it is a gateway to imagination, creativity, and community building. At the School of Knowledge, the ‘Wordsworth Club’ and our School Exhibition held on 1st February 2025 have played a significant role in fostering a love for reading and expression among students. Through puppet shows, poetry the dramatization of ‘The Merchant of Venice,’ student-led performances, and DEAR Time (Drop Everything And Read), which has been an ongoing practice since 2021, learners have developed confidence in public speaking, literary appreciation, and teamwork. These efforts culminated in the recently concluded National Reading Month, a school-wide initiative aimed at strengthening literacy and creative engagement across Years FS1 to Year 9.
Reading Month Activities:
A Journey Through Stories!
Our Reading Month was an exciting celebration of books, creativity, and imagination across FS1 to Year 9. Each day brought new activities that encouraged students to explore literature in a fun and interactive way.
Phase 1:
In celebration of National Reading Month, Phase 1 students embarked on an exciting journey to unlock their imaginations through a variety of engaging reading activities. They set out on their reading adventure with the “Flip and Read” fun activity, where they connected words with pictures, sparking their creativity. Students also had the opportunity to add their own pictures and explain them through sentences, reading them aloud to further develop their expression. The “Spin the Wheel” activity took them on a big reading adventure, as they arranged pictures according to the correct phonemes and read the corresponding words. Additionally, the “Read Aloud” activity helped students stay focused, improving their reading fluency and clarity while enhancing their vocabulary. It was a month filled with fun and learning, fostering a love for reading and helping students grow as confident little readers!
Phase 2: The Phase 2 students, ensuring that no one was left behind, embarked on storytelling adventures, read-aloud sessions, buddy reading , and creative writing, all of which helped strengthen their fluency, comprehension, and confidence. Activities like Pass-the- Story book cover redesigns, and outdoor reading circles brought books to life in an engaging and interactive manner , making reading an exciting and inclusive experience for all students.

Phase 3: Our young learners in Phase 3 explored poetry, storytelling techniques, and author studies in ways that sparked their creativity and critical thinking. From crafting their own mini-books and mind maps to creating book trailers, students sharpened their writing skills while engaging with literature in fresh and exciting ways. They delved deeper into literature through activities like poetry writing, article creation, and book-to-screen adaptations. Whether writing a letter to an author, reimagining book endings, or designing artistic book covers, students showcased their ability to analyze, interpret, and creatively engage with texts, celebrating the joy of reading and writing.

IMPACT AND CONCLUSION: The combination of the Wordsworth Club activities, exhibition, and Reading Month initiatives has created a vibrant, literacy-rich community. Our students at SOK have not only improved their reading and writing skills but have also developed confidence, creativity, and collaboration. By engaging in dramatizations, storytelling, and critical literary discussions, students have strengthened their communication abilities, essential for both academic and personal growth.

These activities weren’t just about reading-they were about self-expression, critical thinking, and teamwork. Through exhibitions, puppet shows, and dramatic performances, students showcased their creativity, proving that literature is more than words on a page-it’s an experience that connects us all.
