Nahyan Bin Mubarak Hails The Participation Of Federal And Local Bodies In The Digital Library Initiative

His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, praised the response of a large number of UAE bodies to the Ministry’s invitation to enrich the content of the National Electronic Library “Digital Library” with their publications and releases. His Excellency stressed that the Digital Library initiative adopted by the ministry comes as part of its efforts to promote electronic reading especially with the spread of smart phones and modern electronic devices that allow access to electronic content. His Excellency pointed out that all projects and initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development follow the directives of our wise leadership represented by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. These project are aimed at enriching, celebrating and presenting the UAE culture to the world, supporting national intellectual production, investing in promoting development, instilling the culture of innovation and building a cohesive UAE society that preserves its national identity. Some of the bodies who took part in enriching the content of the “Digital Library” are:The Ministry of Finance, General Women’s Union, Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research, Dubai Courts, Dubai Economic Council, Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities, The Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, the Statistics Center in Abu Dhabi and the Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah. His Excellency added that opening the door for participation to everyone achieves a number of important goals focusing on building an Emirati digital library in line with technological developments in the electronic publishing industry. It also promotes the cooperation between concerned institutions and UAE publishing houses to support knowledge content on the national level. The digital library also enables strengthening the infrastructure supporting the dissemination, collection and documentation of UAE digital knowledge in its various forms such as books, periodicals, researches, studies and audio and video files. HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, launched the Digital Library Initiative in May 2016 in the presence of a large number of cultural institutions and intellectual figures at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. The project aims at providing an interactive national platform for building a national interactive infrastructure to promote the creation and dissemination of UAE knowledge in line with the world’s scientific and technological development.
