Arabic Language Summit

The first edition of the Arabic Language Summit will be held, following the inaugural edition held on the margin of EXPO Dubai last year, under the slogan “Language and Making of Identity“, during the period from 20 to 21 December 2022 at Manarat Al Saadiyat Center.

9TH UNITED NATIONS ALLIANCE OF CIVILIZATIONS (UNAOC) FORUM

The event, held under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of the Kingdom of Morocco, dealt with ways to enhance dialogue and cooperation between different societies, cultures and civilizations. The forum hosted member states of UNAOC and high-ranking officials from international organsiations including Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and 40 ministers and heads of states. It also hosted participants from around the world to discuss issues related to religions, cultures and civilizations, the prevention of extremism and violence, as well as highlighted topics related to migration, identity, heritage, shared values, combating discrimination and intolerance on the basis of religion, belief and race.

16th Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art

The 16th edition of the Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art, which is being held in France from September 14 to December 31, under the theme “Manifesto of Fragility”.Which includes 230 works of art by 34 artists, more than 300 archival documents from nearly 40 collections worldwide,the works of UAE artists Hashel Al Lamki, Mohammed Kazem and mural artist Chafa Ghaddar, who are representing the UAE at the event. Their participation is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with the Lyon Biennale Foundation.

This year’s Biennale presents new works by contemporary artists along with historical pieces from museums in the French city of Lyon and other places. It is also showcasing collections loaned from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden from the German city of Dresden along with pieces from Lyon’s leading cultural institutions such as the Museum of Fine Arts, the Lugdunum Museum and Roman theatres, the Jadani Museums and others.

The event offers visitors a range of art projects within two main tracks, the artwork hub, which includes contributions from 87 contemporary artists from 39 countries, and a chronological track that includes hundreds of artworks and historical pieces spanning two thousand years alongside collections loaned from various artistic bodies from Lyon and beyond.

Before It’s Too Late: Two Decades of Modern Architectural Heritage

On Wednesday, May 29, 2019, the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development will hold a panel discussion at the “Majlis in Dubai, Al Wasl Road, titled “Before it’s too late – Two Decades of Modern Architectural Heritage”. A panel discussion on how to preserve the modern architectural heritage in the UAE with the participation of specialists and academics.

“Al Salk and Primary Expressions” with the Fujairah Tourism & Antiquities Authority

Fujairah, United Arab Emirates – The Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, in collaboration with the Fujairah Tourism & Antiquities Authority, organized a program entitled “Al Salk and Primary Expressions” at the Masafi Castle on Thursday, April 4, 2019, to revive and celebrate old Emirati customs and traditions.

The program, which hosted a number of senior citizens from the Community Development Authority “Thukhor Social Club” in Dubai, promoted Emirati values ​​which are important for future generations, including the importance of national identity, originality and cultural heritage. It aims to consolidate the relationship between all community groups and the cultural sector in the country. Also, to contribute to shaping a generation capable of overcoming future challenges, preserving national gains and supporting the growth and sustainability of a knowledge-based economy in the UAE.

The program also aims at bridging the gap between generations, preserving UAE values ​​and ethics, and building a sustainable and integrated cultural ecosystem by involving different segments of society in cultural programs and enhancing community understanding of the importance of culture in preserving national identity of the UAE. The participation of senior citizens in the program has a significant and obvious impact on its success because of the great respect they receive from everyone. Also, their wealth of information and life experiences enrich their interactions with all participants in the program.

Saeed Al Samahi, Director of the Fujairah Tourism & Antiquities Authority, said that the UAE attaches great importance to the cultural sector, through its plans and programs which contribute to its development and to empowering society in a sustainable way. He stressed the importance of preserving intangible cultural heritage and devising the best solutions for the challenges which may face it in the future.

He pointed out that the Fujairah Tourism & Antiquities Authority, under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, and with the continuous support and follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, spares no effort to support and enhance cultural reality in Fujairah and the UAE. This is achieved through cooperation with all federal and local government entities, to create a knowledge-based economy, which is supported by tourism, cultural and creative industries and knowledge production, to enhance the UAE’s cultural position globally.

The program included a discussion session with senior citizens, led by Faisal Al-Moah, on Emirati guest welcoming rituals and other core noble qualities ​​of the UAE society, which are rooted in Arab and Islamic ethics and values.

The popular café and heritage center were organized under the supervision of Emirati citizen Abdullah Sulaiman, where aspects of the lives of Emiratis in the past were presented, and traditional drinks and some popular dishes were served. Participants also recalled the memories of the olden days, through traditional and entertaining games such as, “Al-Kirm” and dominoes.

A heritage photography corner was organized by UAE artist Sulaiman Al Shamsi, who took commemorative photographs of audiences in the heritage center, in an innovative way to emulate the reality experienced by senior citizens in the past.      A marine heritage section was also built to explore marine life, which was an integral part of the lives and daily work of older generations in the UAE.

The Red Crescent Society of Fujairah conducted some medical tests and delivered talks to raise awareness of the risks of chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and others, while artist Hazza Al-Dhahani played his oud, and performed traditional heritage songs, requested by senior citizens participating in the program.

The Belarus Culture Days In The UAE

The Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development Noura Al Kaabi and the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus HE Yuri Bondar inaugurated the Belarus Culture Days in the UAE. The event, held at the Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi, featured the State Chamber Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus and Emirati musicians and composers. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials from both countries along with a number of ambassadors to the UAE.

HE Noura Al Kaabi made the opening speech in which she stressed the importance of these Belarusian cultural days as one of the manifestations of the strong relations between the two countries, which have been evolving at an accelerated pace during the last few years.

Commenting on the event, Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, said:

“’The Belarus Culture Days in the UAE is an initiative to strengthen cultural relations with the Republic of Belarus following a memorandum of understanding that was signed between the two countries. This collaboration opens up new avenues of cultural cooperation and allows our counterparts in Belarus to take a closer look at our rich civilization, heritage and arts. The program creates an engaging cultural dialogue between intellectuals and artists from the two countries.”

Al Kaabi emphasized the significance of cultural days and their role in building bridges of creative experiences and strengthening the UAE’s standing as a leading global destination for cultural diversity and promoting its position on the world cultural map.

She explained that culture and art are tools for establishing a collective vision that opens a new chapter of cooperation. They create common spaces for action and provide a strong impetus to cement the friendly relations between the UAE and Belarus.

HE Al Kaabi went on to express her pride in the dazzling performances by young UAE musicians during the ceremony as they exhibited national talents’ capabilities for creativity and innovation.

Yuri Bondar, Minister of Culture of Belarus said: “We are proud to present the first ever Belarus Culture Days in the UAE during this Year of Tolerance and we are happy to make together with our Emirati colleagues a positive “cultural” contribution to the excellent relations between Belarus and the UAE”.

The inauguration ceremony featured an audience pleasing performance by the State Chamber Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus led by Maestro Yevgeny R. Boskov, accompanied by Emirati musicians Hamad Al Tai and Ibrahim Al Junaibi on the piano, who performed pieces of their own composition.

on January 31, the Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi will host a visual arts exhibition featuring 36 pieces by Belarusian artists, in addition to a forum featuring Maestro Yevgeny R. Boskov, Emirati musicians Hamad Al Tai and Ibrahim Al Junaibi, and a musical workshop on string instruments by Maestro Yevgeny R. Boskov which will be attended by university students. Belarus will also hold a handcraft workshop addressed to people of determination and autistic patients.

The program of the Belarus Culture Days in the UAE includes two additional concerts on February 1st at the House – Sharjah, and the second on February 2nd at The One & Only Royal Mirage in Dubai.

UAE Cultural Week In Paris

On the occasion of the UAE-France Cultural Dialogue 2018/2019, the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development is pleased to present the UAE Cultural Week in Paris. Throughout the week, the public will engage with diverse elements of Emirati culture through design and art exhibitions, film screenings, culinary fusion experiences and Emirati-made products. The week will also host a series of interactive talks exploring the cultural and creative collaboration between the two countries. The event will also be a significant occasion to renew the UAE and France’s long-standing friendship through initiatives which showcase the energy and innovation emanating from creative communities in both countries, whilst simultaneously demonstrating their close political and defense cooperation, strong economic bonds and flagship projects in the fields of culture and education.

SEMAINE DE LA CULTURE EMIRIENNE DE PARIS
A l’occasion du dialogue culturel franco-émirien 2018/2019, le ministère de la Culture et du Développement de la Connaissance des Émirats Arabes Unis est ravi de présenter la semaine de la culture émirienne à Paris. Pendant cette semaine, plusieurs éléments de la culture émirienne seront présentés au grand public à travers des expositions d’art et de design, des projections de films, des expériences de cuisine « fusion » et présentation de produits en provenance des Émirats. Cette semaine accueillera également une série de rencontres interactives qui exploreront la collaboration culturelle et créative entre ces deux pays. Cet événement sera également l’occasion de renouveler l’amitié de longue date entre la France et les Émirats, et ce à travers des initiatives mettant en valeur le dynamisme et la capacité d’innovation des communautés créatives des deux pays. L’évènement mettra également en relief leur coopération étroite au niveau politique et de défense, leurs liens économiques et leurs projets phares dans les domaines de la culture et de l’éducation.
